Trail Mix: Build Your Own

Homemade trail mix is the perfect, packable snack for long treatment days! You can make an inexpensive trail mix at home that includes your favorite snacks and flavors. Add nuts for protein. Include high-fiber cereals for extra fiber. You can even add some chocolate chips to satisfy your sweet tooth!

To build a tasty trail mix to your liking, use this basic recipe:

  • 1 cup cereal
  • 1 cup dried fruit
  • 1 cup nuts
  • 1 cup pretzels or mini-crackers
  • 1 cup assorted seeds or fun mix-ins
  • 1/8 teaspoon of spice
Cereal Chex, Corn Bran, Cheerios®, Fiber One, Kasha
Dried Fruit Cranberries, Raisins, Bananas, Mango
Nuts Pecans, Cashews, Peanuts, Walnuts, Almonds, or Soy Nuts
Pretzels or Mini-Crackers Unsalted Mini Pretzels, Oyster Crackers, Cheese Crackers, Goldfish®
Seeds Sunflower, Pumpkin
Fun Mix-ins Dark/Bittersweet Chocolate chips, Popcorn, M&M’S®
Spices Cinnamon, Cloves, Sea Salt, Turmeric, Mild Chili Powder, Parmesan Cheese

Watch your sodium—choose unsalted options!

These are just a few ideas to get you started! Have fun building your own tasty trail mix. Store in an airtight plastic container or zip lock bag to take with you on treatment days or to eat as a snack between meals for added calories and energy.
