Mission Moment: Weight Loss After Cancer Treatment

By PearlPoint Nutrition Services November 8, 2013Pearls of Wisdom Blog

Jessica, a stage III melanoma survivor, had to take steroids to combat the side effects of targeted cancer therapy. During this time Jessica experienced some weight gain, a common side effect of steroids. After completing treatment, Jessica wanted to do everything possible to lower her risk of recurrence, and she knew that losing the weight from treatment would be important. That is when she called PearlPoint Cancer Support for guidance to a healthy survivorship.

Jessica spoke with one of PearlPoint’s registered dietitians to discuss the importance of maintaining a healthy weight throughout survivorship. Our dietitian explained that weight gain can be common in cancer patients and pointed Jessica to our website for tips to maintain a healthy weight after cancer treatment. Our dietitian also stressed that once cancer treatment is complete, eating foods with optimal nutrition can help restore the body.
