SURVIVORville was back in Nashville this past weekend from Thursday, July 20th– Saturday, July 22nd. SURVIVORville is produced by the Women Survivors Alliance. This was the 5 year anniversary of the first convention. SURVIVORville is a place for women cancer survivors “to learn to navigate the muddy waters of survivorship and have quite the fun!”
Throughout the weekend, participants networked with other women survivors to create a community of healing. Participants attended educational breakout sessions on a variety of topics nutrition, finances, sexuality to learn strategies to improve survivorship. Women who are making an impact in the cancer and healthcare world shared their inspirational stories. And, of course, there was plenty of time (and free shuttles) for participants to enjoy all that Nashville has to offer!
A point SURVIVORville and the Women Survivors Alliance drives home is that the cancer journey doesn’t end when treatment ends. In survivorship, women (and all cancer survivors) continue to combat side effects, heal emotionally, and rebuild a life post-cancer. Survivorship takes strength!
At PearlPoint Cancer Support, we also understand that cancer survivors continue to face unique challenges after treatment. Here are some resources from My PearlPoint to help you or your loved one improve quality of life post-cancer treatment:
Many cancer survivors struggle with the fear of recurrence. What if my cancer comes back? What if my cancer spreads? For some, these fears can become overwhelming even years into remission. These fears are completely normal, but there are things you can do to try to manage them.
Help With Managing Cancer Side Effects
Side effects can continue even after treatment ends. Learn strategies to manage them. Some of these side effects are short-term should improve over time. Others may be long-term. Talk to your healthcare team about side effects after cancer treatment to know what to expect.
Take charge of what you can! Once cancer treatment is complete, it is time to restore and rejuvenate the body by feeding it with the best foods for optimal nutrition. Nutrition status, physical activity, and body weight all play a role in preventing cancer recurrence.
You’ve just finished cancer treatment, but you may be asking yourself what comes next? Survivorship brings with it new challenges and questions. Use PearlPoint Cancer Support’s Survivorship Handbook as your guide.
