Spotlight on Jeff Hutchins: Client Support Representative

By PearlPoint Nutrition Services October 30, 2013Pearls of Wisdom Blog

November 11 is Veterans Day and in honor of this special day we are shining the spotlight on Jeff Hutchins a proud veteran, Purple Heart recipient, and PearlPoint’s Client Support Representative. A native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Jeff joined the Army in 2008. His time as an airborne combat medic took him overseas to Afghanistan. After four years of service, Jeff landed in the Nashville area, where he decided to complete his degree and join the PearlPoint team. When Jeff’s not busy serving our clients or studying, you might find him playing music with his band, The Arc, or volunteering with Reboot Combat Recovery, an organization which helps veterans suffering with PTSD. Jeff’s experience, grace under pressure, and reassuring demeanor make him the perfect “front-line” responder for our clients. We are grateful to have Jeff on our team and hope you enjoy learning more about him!

PearlPoint: What led you to work at PearlPoint Cancer Support?

Jeff: I had the opportunity to serve in the military as a medic. It was there I found my passion was to serve others and preserve life.

PearlPoint: What do you find most gratifying about your work?

Jeff: On a daily basis we get to turn adversity into opportunity and for that, I’m truly grateful. Every time an individual calls in to thank us for helping them, news spreads around the office like wildfire. Everyone is encouraged and inspired like it’s our first day on the job!

PearlPoint: What’s the most common struggle you find people calling in face?

Jeff: People want to be heard, they want to know someone is there who is truly listening and cares. Everyone in some way has been impacted by cancer whether directly as a survivor, or as a family member or friend, and it’s compassion that helped them in their journey. We love to give that compassion and lend our ear.

PearlPoint: What’s something about yourself that most people don’t know?

Jeff: I am proficient in American Sign Language and love the deaf community. I’m also an amateur fashion designer; I’ve made my own pants and actually worn them in public.

PearlPoint: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Jeff: “Start anywhere, just start.” and “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth over doing.” Both said by Nikki Sixx of M tley Cr e.

PearlPoint: Who is your role model and why?

Jeff: My role model is my father. He taught me to lead with my heart and that people are the most important thing. If you take away all the money, all the material, what you’re left with is each other.
