October is Health Literacy Month. Health Literacy Month promotes the importance of understandable health information. At PearlPoint Cancer Support, we understand the importance of easy-to-understand information about health, especially cancer. We try to write our content in a way that anyone can understand. Many medical terms are not common knowledge. Cancer is overwhelming enough. You shouldn’t have to wade through unfamiliar medical or scientific jargon, too.
What else do we do at PearlPoint to promote health literacy for cancer survivors?
Encourage survivors to always ask questions
The best way to find the answer to a question is to ask. Your healthcare team can answer all of your questions. Your healthcare team wants to help you. Do not be afraid or embarrassed to ask any question at any time. It’s your health. You deserve answers.
Work with healthcare professionals to deliver the best information
At PearlPoint, we work closely with healthcare professionals to make sure all our content is medically sound.
Listen to survivors’ feedback
At PearlPoint, we also greatly value feedback from survivors and co-survivors who use our services.
Appeal to many learning styles
People learn in different ways. Some people learn from reading. Others are auditory or visual learners. On our website, in addition to written articles, we also offer click-through slide shows and videos to appeal to all learning styles.
